Kindergarten Addition

Kindergarten addition starts with things a child can see and count, and these addition worksheets for kindergarten keep every problem that concrete. On each row a first group of pictures is shown, and the child counts them, looks at the total for the row, and works out how many more belong in the empty box beside them. Because both the parts and the whole are pictured, a five- or six-year-old can count up to the answer instead of recalling a fact they have not learned yet. Every sum stays within ten, which is exactly the range kindergarten works in.

Some sheets show two full groups to join and count all together for a plain sums-to-ten problem; others leave one group blank so the child finds the missing addend. Cheerful themes -- animals, food, vehicles -- make the counting feel like play rather than drill. A teacher can hand the page out at a math station, and a parent can sit beside a child at the kitchen table and count the pictures together.
