Number Words Worksheet

Write the Number Words with a Word Bank

Grade 1 Number & Operations in Base Ten Common Core

A word bank runs across the top of this Grade 1 page, and beneath it six numerals wait, each printed above its own writing line. For every numeral the child finds the matching word in the bank and writes it out. The bank holds exactly the six words needed, shuffled out of order, and the numbers stay between 3 and 20 — words children already meet daily, except that this time nothing is circled and every letter has to be copied correctly.

Recognizing a word and producing it are two different skills, and the gap between them is where number-word work usually stalls. A child who circles fourteen without hesitation may still write it as forteen the moment the choice disappears. The word bank keeps this page honest rather than punishing: the correct spelling is right there to copy, so the child practises the act of writing the word — the letter order, the length, the look of the thing — with a model available. Because the bank holds six words for six numerals, it is also self-checking; a leftover word at the end means something above it went wrong.

Print the PDF free and expect it to take longer than the circling pages, since writing is slower and that is entirely fine. Number words to 20 is the recognition page that comes first, and match numbers to number words sits neatly between the two in difficulty.
