Fable's Picture Stories — Story Key Details (Kindergarten)

Kindergarten·RL.K.1

A free interactive Kindergarten reading activity: read a short three-picture story with Fable the fox, then answer questions about the key details — who is in the story, what happens, where it takes place, what happened first and last, and why. A friendly, picture-and-caption way to build early story comprehension. Common Core RL.K.1.

About this activity

Children read a short three-picture story with Fable the fox — 'The Lost Mitten,' 'The Stuck Carrot,' 'The Rainy Picnic' — each panel with a picture and caption, then answer questions about what happened. It's a free, interactive Kindergarten reading activity that plays right in the browser with no account.

The big idea is answering questions with details from the text. After the story, the child gets a question — who hopped in the snow, what slipped off, where it happened, what happened first or last, why the carrot would not come out, or how the friends felt at the end — and taps one of three answers. The wrong choices are plausible-sounding things that simply did not happen in the story (a blue hat instead of a red mitten, a pond instead of the tree), so the child has to go back to what the story actually said.

It is aligned to Common Core RL.K.1 — asking and answering questions about key details in a story. No timer, no score — just calm, playful practice.
